The pandemic may increase US federal debt by $6 trillion. That's largely debt that 71 million Millennials will 'pay off', over the coming decades, via reduced gov't services & increased taxes. We're saddling every American Millennial with an extra $85,000 in gov't debt.https://twitter.com/steve_hanke/status/1254835704053379072 …

My good friend @CatoEdwards estimates that the #COVID19 crisis will add $6 trillion to federal debt. As they say, we have a little problem. Money doesn’t just grow on trees. Every dollar borrowed has a cost. https://www.cato.org/blog/crisis-may-add-6-trillion-federal-debt …

This debt will not be repaid by taxes, it will be repaid via a combination of inflation and debt default / deflation. People with the wrong kind of assets will pay the bill. Mostly that's baby boomers. Real estate and rent will go down in terms of labor, benefiting the young.

It will be mostly boomers until it isn't. Long term debt paid by multiple generations. Opportunity costs etc.

Yeah but we all got $1200 checks so it’s really only $83,800...right?

The real travesty is that the actual people are going to see less than 10% of that $85,000 themselves. It was unavoidable that we would have to spend a ton of money in this scenario. We didn't have to hand it to corporations though.
