Someone hasn't read Spearman. Ability in latin and greek is the best predictor for the ability in other subjects. They are heavily g-loaded.
Very familiar with Spearman, and aware that language learning is heavily g-loaded. Point remains, kinda wish I'd learned Mandarin & Spanish rather than Latin & French, in terms of being able to travel & talk with people.

Very interesting. Does g-loading apply only to second-language acquisition, or to large vocabulary in native language too? What about places where everybody speaks 5+ languages? Are they higher IQ than other regions?

There is a reason for the existance of a lingua franca (eng). Those who won't speak it, are not part of the first world; with the trend getting stronger ever since. Latin is a science-ish culture subject with a nice selection mechanism: You meet the "right" people in this class.
