I've had my arguments with Taleb about IQ research, but he makes some good points in this interview, inc. the fact that global pandemics are NOT 'black swans', but were widely predicted by expects.https://twitter.com/robkhenderson/status/1252687788178386944 …

I guess when you don't mind burning everything down around you, you have no use for sage advice - even when mitigating a pandemic is your responsibility -like "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".pic.twitter.com/woXwm3ayhV

The data we had in January to did not support being worried about COVID-19 globally. A handful of people happened to be right, but that's despite the data. We can't get into the habit of cherry picking the data into a prediction after the event has already happened.

Experts were, rightly so, more worried about ebola and influenza.

That said, there is value in basing the response on an actual situation instead of hypotheticals. A high degree of preparation for an Ebola type pandemic might not have been as helpful in this case. No one can see the future.

Well, someone should calculate the false positives and false negatives error consequences for pandemic preparations. We did have the media freak out over Ebola a few years ago and that was clearly overblown fear. So when do we shut down countries? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_positives_and_false_negatives …
