Seems a bit flawed, since men might just be less likely to admit or even think/be aware that they crave interpersonal relationships as much as women, even if they do in reality.

I don't think this is a valid point, because the study is not about what subjects themselves thought about the reasons behind life satisfaction. It uses a statistical model to estimate how different variables predict reported life satisfaction.
