perhaps if they had some actual evidence to fall back on, even a shred, then they would be more confident and less threatened. But they know that they don't.

I love people who grow up surrounded and indoctrinated into a society based on religious myths that think they would have the same moral codes without them being present. I may not believe but I am glad enough other people do to allow civilization to exist.

Morality can be seen in non-religious civilizations. I think it largely depends on the person, and frankly, their intelligence level. Having a sense of morality can come naturally to those smart enough to understand the implications of good and bad behavior.

I wonder what they'd do if they were offered the chance of knowing for certain what the truth is (whatever it may be). Would they risk their equanimity by accepting, or would they prefer to remain in secure in their beliefs?
