While I agree, the critical part of me asks the question - "what made these things attractive in the first place". One might suggest that 2 legs were preferable under the same evolutionary process and voila. What is it about these traits that started the ball rolling?

Answer: they are traits that have multiple reproducing benefits, practical utilitarian ones: better individual survival, better care and survival of partner and offspring. Creating a long term stable beneficial environment for offspring to get to their own reproductive stage.
