The pandemic has already cost universities millions of dollars. As they consider the possibility of remote classes into the fall, they’re worried about losing students, too. 
Perhaps this will be an opportunity to get rid of faculty tenure as well...

It's already happening, though - this is just fast-forwarding a process that's been playing out slowly for years.
True. It's been happening for decades. But until there are alt-university start-ups that offer viable credentials, it seems imprudent to give up on existing institutions entirely.
