This is an important point. Funding is largely based on peer review, which reflects the ideological biases of academics themselves. This bias is pronounced in the social sciences.
My mild praise: The US science funding system in the behavioral sciences is so politically biased that researchers with intellectual integrity have no illusions about the ideological hegemony we're living under.
