I'd still rather spend time with a conversation that descends into that than one that never will because we agree. Knowing when to leave is key.
I usually unfollow people when they turn irrational & barbarous, not when I disagree with them. On some issues, everyone I agree with is irrational & barbarous, and that's sad, bc there's no one to follow.

Also, some people are so tedious and predictable in their views that following them is a waste of mental energy because you know what they are going to say after some point.
