Beacuse we know its not fundamental economic problems that created the unemployment, like 2008
-
Seems like folks not having jobs or income is kind of a fundamental economic problem.

the stock market is not a measure of the health of the economy. It is a ledger of bets made by hyper wealthy stakeholders that public companies will do whatever is necessary--to whomever is required--in order to maximize shareholder value.
-
Sure. But the shutdowns are going to make it harder for companies to do that. They don't operate in a vacuum. Duplicity only goes so far.

(Also there may very well be a resurgence of inflation, a massive resurgence. In which case cash ~is~ trash. A possibility that Arnold Kling, who is usually right about a lot of things, argues. Lots of stimulus money chasing few supply chain goods?)

Stocks reflect general investor sentiment of how things will be in six months.
-
I think this is it. Increasing stock prices could just mean that people now think things will be less bad than they did a month ago.
