One doesn’t have to be a fetishist to understand IQ is real and willing to cite it as a driver for many of the social disparities we see. Denialists are mostly (accurately) worried that their prescriptions for society won’t produce the promised results if IQ matters.
The person you're describing is much more likely to be the 'public IQ denier' who loves to score cheap virtue-signaling points by staying comfortably inside the Overton Window and being congratulated by like-minded devotees of Stephen Jay Gould and other charlatans & ideologues.
