shit, we are there already. Rarely when I smile at anyone do they smile back, most ignore it or nod. Others seem to find it weird.
Prediction: recurring pandemics + ubiquitous face-recognition software = a future in which everyone goes masked in public, & can barely remember a time when total strangers were privileged to see each other's smiles.

Maybe in America, but here in Italy people are dying to see, touch, hug and connect physically. Dystopian fantasies, fortunately, rarely manifest, and rarer still in countries with a long history of appreciation for the finer things in life, & by this I mean our humanity.
