One weakness of 'civic nationalism' is that, in the absence of a unified culture, population, morality, or set of civilizational aspirations, the only thing that's really holding the country together is the economy. What happens to such a nation when the economy fails?

We don’t have civic nationalism in the US, so I’m not sure how the US is a good example. If we did, there would be a non-ethnic National identity. We don’t have that. FFS, we’ve spent the last four decades actively destroying any reminant of an identity.

Yep. Even if we did have civic nationalism, we'd be in trouble. But we don't even have that any more.
