What's the best current computer strategy game that's kinda like the old 'Civilization', 'Age of Empires', or 'Starcraft'? (Asking for a friend who wants to nuke their productivity during the Great Cloistering.)

I played the original Crusader Kings and it was one of my favorites ever! Never got as far as Europa Universalis, though. Paradox did some great stuff, though.
