I am a libertarian as well. But I see that as being in favour of as much freedom as possible. Sometimes freedom for the future requires restrictions today, even plague measures like lockdowns and social distancing. Libertarianism is of as much freedom as we can responsibly have.

Simply because we are in a time of plague and are thus taking necessary measures to limit freedom does not by any means mean they should be extended beyond the plague. But they are needed during the plague. Responsible freedom.

They double down on it and insist that every new situation is the final proof that they were absolutely right about everything and that their policies are absolutely the best in every respect for all possible situations.
-
I haven’t seen anyone say that. I think most say that emergency situations require different policies than the other 99.9% of the time.

I'm definitely not a libertarian, but I don't think this pandemic "annihilates the entire ideology", unless you're talking about the most radical versions of libertarianism that say the ONLY justified use of government is to combat "aggression".
-
Perfectly consistent for moderate libertarian to think "in general taxes should be lower, we should have fewer gov services and regulations, but we're in special times now and the gov should really step up." I still think this view is wrong, but for reasons unrelated to COVID-19.

They're using a pandemic to argue for UBI and universal healthcare. The same thing they've been demanding for years when we weren't in a pandemic.

I've never heard libertarians suggest that we shouldn't have a federal government with the ability to coordinate responses to issues like COVID. It's the exact kind of non state/local/business issue I hear libs say we need a fed gov for.

After college and in my first few years of the world, my entire outlook changed based on real world experience. You shared this meme, and while I’m not quite the Chad, my policy positions have moved from Blue/Purple to the entire spectrum.pic.twitter.com/UhzHVDNFhc
