In a college literature class, we tried for 20 minutes to explain to one dim young mother that Jonathan Swift didn't really think eating Irish babies was a good idea, it was just satire to point out English abuses. She wouldn't have it. This convo is just as futile, don't bother.

But... it fails at ALL of the steps. How can that guy not realise that? It fails at the value of currency, cause thats determined by how high the people value it, then the cost of goods is what people are willing to pay and what they need to thrive is arbitrary too.

I've taken exactly zero econ classes, but I can say I don't trust the same gov't that continually fucks up the DMV, VA, and USPS to control the economy directly.

He knows the answer, Geoffrey, what he's really saying is we need to have an answer to this question that the people asking it can understand.

@chadfelixg Because value changes on-the-fly, even when price controls obtain. you will not sell me your lawnmower unless you want my cash more than your mower. I won't buy it unless I want the mower more than my cash. In every trade, the value of the currency & goods fluctuates.

Communists tried that and it didnt work. Because information is widely distributed in society and the government doesnt have enough centralized info to allocate resources efficiency, and because the profit motive is what drives innovation & efficiency. @chadfelixg
