it is difficult to ask modern people, living in a virtual world filled with distractions, to act like mature adults. our ancestors dealt with war, nature, sickness, death. we have dealt with media controversies and transgender people in bathrooms.

Goddamn right. Some replies here are downright depressing. Also the economic doom mongering needs to stop. People and governments are shifting into action, this will be a temporary disruption and affected sectors will restart. In the meantime people will have essential needs met.
