Yang isn't a centrist. In any political orientation test he would take, he would be to the left of about 70% of Americans. Although he may have been a relative centrist in the Democratic presidential candidate field this year, he isn't when compared to the US public as a whole.

In his temperament, left of center. His solutions are sufficiently unorthodox as not to fit well with either left or right. The War on Normal People reads pretty centrist.
