picked up a fantasy novel that someone recommended. awful stuff, just laughably bad. couldn’t understand why it was even published but it turns out she’s some wildly successful YA writer lol

Sci-fi and fantasy may be lumped together a lot, but they are not the same. There is a ton of great sci-fi out there (including The Moon is a Harsh Mistress). Fantasy... Good fantasy is hard to find.
