My closest colleague, from northern Italy, has two siblings working in hospitals there. I assure you, this calamity is not fake news there. Feel free to fly to Milan if you have any doubts.
The mortality rate just doesn't seem to justify the second and third order consequences of grinding all of civil society to a halt. Stasis strikes me as at least as dangerous as the virus, if not moreso, given the data I've seen. But that's just the opinion of a twitter anon.
And what will the mortality rate turn out to be? 1% of a 180k? 4% of 2.5 billion?
