May someone please tell me why people are stockpiling water? Is there any reason to believe coronavirus is going to impact the water? Or do people only have experience preparing for storms and loss of electricity and don’t realize what they’re doing?

Yeah, I think the most likely reason the water would go out is a lack of workers showing up to work on the water system because they are sick or afraid of getting sick. But it still doesn't seem nearly as likely as, e.g. being in the path of a hurricane.

Or perhaps not enough workers because so many have to stay home with their kids whose daycares and schools are closed.

Always have a water contingency plan. It’s best to sort out a way to catch it and purify it.
