You say 'panic' like it it isn't an adaptive emotion that evolved because it saved millions of our ancestors from imminent threats to survival, while their less panic-prone, more oblivious rivals went extinct.

Yes - I know all about that. Randy is a friend & interviewed him for my book. y point was that current panic (of buying loo paper for example) may well be way out in terms of the actual environmental risk (just as many panic attacks are).

Fair enough. But also, the media, markets, & politicians gain from trying to reassure investors, consumers, & voters, by making fun of the small % of people who panic in especially irrational & counter-productive ways.
