You don't think this firing is a legitimate threat to academic free speech?

It gets harder when you recognize that there aren't limitless platforms for speech. How do you feel about the widespread slashing of funding for humanities programs - do you support their free speech? Or are they full of "grievance studies" that we don't need it in our academy?

"Academic free speech" doesn't guarantee a right to put forward glaringly illogical arguments. Many academics get away with this w/o losing their jobs, but when those arguments are recycled from eugenicists/apartheid/etc, the university has a duty of care imo.

Paradox of Tolerance is a thing and the fastest way to deal with it is to acknowledge that we can have freedom of speech without accepting reprehensible views as having a place in civil society.

Which is to say: A bunch of countries manage to have something slightly more restrictive than the First Amendment without collapsing into a repressive dictatorship.
