I'm still fairly convinced you were incorrect on both counts - about what prayer is to most people who pray, and how people would react in the real world to the idea of mindfulness meditation before every meeting.

It doesn't show their conflicted, it does show that you are wrong. Meditation is self-reaffirming, prayer is self-minimizing. There is a difference saying "I am in control" and saying "He is in control." If a president was meditating during a crisis, of course it would be mocked.

Meditation done properly recognises you are not in control and helps with the mindfulness needed to push through issues. That is similar to how you describe prayer.

One of my former christian ministers taught about how he practices “listening” for god by trying to silence his mind and thoughts so that he can better “hear” god and grow closer to him. This is essentially mediation, as far as I can tell. I love the parallel here.

I am no longer religious, but I still have my kids pray before dinner because there is something truly powerful in taking a moment to stop and be thankful for what you do have, especially if times get tough.
