It's not the metaphysics that matters. It doing a little ritual that hits the mental reset button so people can have more somber, gentle, constructive, less neurotic meetings.
Agreed. But can you then tell me what the differences are between "prayer" (by someone with pence's professed views) and mindfulness meditation (generic version i guess) and why those differences don't matter here when it comes to a snarky tweet and/or genuine concern?

I'm really surprised that you would adopt this view. It sounds apologetic-adjacent. A religious person is telling you an*intervention* is being asked here. Yes the ritual had an evolutionary function in bonding but the comparison you drew is nevertheless not adequate
Absolutely. I feel non-believers can struggle with this aspect. When I prayed I was in direct communication with God, and my relationship with God was not a simple one. It is far from meditation for many believers.
An act of communication with God is not the same as hitting 'the mental reset button', it wasn't my experience, and it isn't the experience of many others that pray. You keep stating what prayer is and is not, and what aspects of it do and not matter in this instance.
