In principle, yes. In practice, you might spend months in court for brandishing or using a firearm, no matter how justified the situation. Most good Concealed Carry courses emphasize this again, and again, and again.

I mean I’m from the south, so it may be different if you live in a different region. I’ve never heard of someone being arrested for having a gun in their own home, and my father is an attorney (which increases the likelihood by at least some amount I’d have heard of it).

The closest thing I can think of is people engaging in firefights with police officers (who didn’t announce themselves), which is still fairly rare
