How much do you actually know about Christian prayer & how it works? Serious question. As a lifelong atheist until recently turning agnostic, I knew nothing until a few years ago when I decided to learn more.

For sure. I put my conception of it in a tweet above this one. I was thinking of the more central purposes of it as well.
As a former Christian I can from experience say prayer of this sort is in large measure petitioning for outside intervention. When done earnestly this entails the acceptance that one lacks capacity to do so independently. To have faith is to lean on god, which is defeatist.
