I think she forgot about the people who used religion to fight slavery and all those who used it to fight for civil rights like MLK. I'm an atheist but it's easy to see people use it for whatever cause they want. Her arguments are juvenile.

She actually used the "if Jesus were here, we would brand him as an heretic all over again!" trope ;)

It isn't about religious institutions. It's about any form of organization that can oppose socialists. Every time socialism is attempted, that's the first thing they try to eradicate. They demand complete loyalty to the state and nothing else. You will be reeducated or killed.

The funny thing about her is she's often partly right. If Jesus walked into congress he would be considered a radical & probably would be thrown out. Just like 2000 yrs ago.

Geoffrey....kids of HER generation probably didn't HAVE civics classes. I'm Class of 1988 myself, and I think many schools *removed* civics classes in the mid-1990s. Hubby (Class of 84) & I saw a news story about this about 20 years ago and were appalled.

Civics curricula has largely given way to social studies, to the country’s detriment.

They are coming for our precious right of conscience. They will put us in re-education camps like China does to Uiguhrs. (How much of public education already functions like a re-education camp? How much does our freedom to earn a living already depend on self-censorship?)

First the religious right started claiming epistemic rights to act, then the postmodern left started claiming affective rights to believe, it all kind of fell apart from there...

High school civics class? That wasn't even part of my formal education 20 years ago. If I recall, we may have had one as a rather unpopular elective.

Quick Google reveals why. Civics wasn't required.https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/education-k-12/reports/2018/02/21/446857/state-civics-education/ …
