'Contagion' (2011) is popular on Netflix. Watched it again last night. Some of the science is dubious, but seems plausible about how a pandemic could spark a slow-motion collapse of social order. The big majority of people with and age up to 65 years experience it like a flu. People below 40 like a mild flu. The panic has much higher economic costs than the virus itself.

And all sorts of stuff happens while the public eye is elsewhere. Israel planning a new landgrab for housing, turkey opening border for migrants towards EU, protests in countries suddenly breaking up etc. Its damn convinient.

If that's true, it shows a real gap in the market for pandemic films. Contagion is too Hollywood to be convincing, but without any spectacular action scenes that Hollywood does well. All the personal stories are cliché and schmaltzy, the dialogue is pretty naff...
