News flash: there are ~50 gallons of uncontaminated water in the water heater available after the utilities fail. That little spigot on the bottom provides the flow - attach a hose, and voila, you have water for days and days. Fresh, clean, not so hot.

Is that true? I wouldn’t dare drink it.

I had the idea of adding an extra water tank on a main water line of your house, so its continually refreshed with fresh water when you open taps. It's always full, you don't have to predict when utilities will fail. Wrote up a post with the details: http://ecotechnicinklings.blogspot.com/2019/03/idea-for-easy-urban-water-storage.html …

To really "prep" you need: 1) a place removed from people, 2) water supply (with filtration/well), 3) generator (to run said well and/or food storage), 4) 3 - 6 month supply of food, 5) guns and ammunition to protect 1-4 and hunt, and 6) established community bonds to support you

By a "place removed from people" I mean "many, many people (like a city), but still a small community of people (say 50 - 100 people with whom you have established relationships)."

The better investment is life straw - 1000 gallons - you can drink right out of a river, or a puddle, or your tub, or other water source. $17 https://www.amazon.com/LifeStraw-Personal-Camping-Emergency-Preparedness/dp/B006QF3TW4/ref=asc_df_B006QF3TW4/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=194884170462&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5562239385002861087&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019664&hvtargid=pla-310770782840&psc=1 …

They should have made it look like President Taft when it's filled. They missed the marketing opportunity for the "Taft Tap"
