The first rule of prepping is, you don't talk about your prepping.

If we all did basic prepping, shelves wouldn't be emptied when we needed to shelter in place for a period of time. We would actually have food in stores when we went to get some, and people wouldn't be fighting each other over the last bag of rice.
-
My grandparents lived that way not even thinking about it. Cellars stocked with my grandmothers canning. Huge garden in the back Freezer stocked with grandpas hunting/fishing. They weren’t prepping that was just common sense. They never assumed anyone else would take care of them

I think there is almost zero chance it does not become a global pandemic. We've not seen a 1% CFR pandemic in our lifetimes (even Spanish flu widely quoted as 2.5% was less than 1%). However, main struggles will be # ICU beds, nursing homes, prisons, other institutions.
-
Once it is a pandemic mitigation is about social distancing and hygiene, not closing entire cities down (there's no point). By the time it gets to most of the West, this is probably where we will be in pandemic planning. Most gov't still have their policies from 2009 H1N1.

My wife low-key thinks I'm crazy. I went to Costco and bought $450 of staples. Rice, beans, toiletries, diapers. We'll use those things regardless. Just now we have a couple months' worth. Still thinking of other things I should have... just in case.
-
Exactly, it will be used eventually. I plan on stocking extra cat food, Tylenol, and the staples you mentioned minus diapers.

150 pounds of rice, drink mix, cooking oil, anti-bacterial products, beans, canned goods. I have spring fed well water on property and thousands of acres on the backside of my neighborhood with lots of wildlife. We’re good to sit tight for a few months if need be.

Forgot the rice
