The exact opposite was true for me. I believed in the meritocracy until tenure, and now I see that the system is so ideologically biased that it has been reengineered to favor political correctness over merit.

Do you see even any light at the end of the tunnel? By that I mean some sort of return to sanity. Are the "soldiers of reason" brave enough to turn things around? Or are we doomed to endure the unintended consequences of this experiment before some sort of clarity returns.

I remember sitting in on a presentation by post-docs for assistant professorships. This was 2001. But it was clear to me who was going to be hired. The most confounding purveyor of jargon and sly telegraphing of PC invectives won the horse race.
