@hbdchick It would be cool if you decided to blog on the extra-pair paternity paper. Represents a change in the conventional wisdom, no? I’ll admit I’m having kind of a hard time thinking through the implications. Isn’t this just a finding peculiar to the Himba?
The key lesson from that paper is, jut because women have different lovers, and kids are sired by different dads, doesn't mean nobody knows who the sires are. 'Extra-pair paternity' doesn't always imply 'paternity uncertainty'. Big implications for rethinking sexual evolution.

see my note about the cousin marriage thing, too. if the extrapairings happen with cousins, too, then maybe a lot of the dads are raising their own cousins. not *such* a big deal then.

I haven't read the paper yet. Do they specify if men treat their nonbiological children the exact same way as their biological ones ?
