I am stupified when I reflect that a fact so fundamental, so established, so universal to our species is being questioned. What's the evopsych explanation for this?

I think you're confusing people by saying "gamete size" instead of "gamete type produced." Most people understand that that males produce sperm and females produce eggs, even if they don't know the egg is larger.

What really happened here is too many of us read the question with the base assumption that it was in the context of humans and the normal wars that get fought on twitter over this topic. In ALL of biology its gamete size, in humans it is X/Y.

I admit i only did 1 biology class in high school but on wikipedia under: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamete Sex determination in mammals and birds "Humans and most mammals use the XY sex-determination system..." What am i misunderstanding, because a ton of people are saying gamete size?
-
It is DEFINED by gamete size. In humans, the type of gametes you produced is generally determined by your chromosomes. But the definition of sex is still based on gametes.
