Any thoughts regarding the idea that people also virtue signal to their own selves as a placebo to promote advantageous behaviors / states (eg confidence)?
Yep. I think 'self-signaling' (signaling credibly to oneself) is also important, deserves more research, & sustains a lot of genuinely ethical behavior.
