Which "intellectual" (I use this term loosely) has had the most pernicious influence on American public discourse? Charles Murray seems like a very strong contender, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Even if this guy's read the Bell Curve, the idea that Murray has had pernicious negative effects is silly.https://twitter.com/RayMcCue/status/1215653072170516480?s=20 …

It doesn't matter if he's read it. Like all ideologues, he simply assigns incorrect attribution for science/assertions arriving at different conclusions to his. eg. Jeet Heer nominated John Locke therefore Liberalism = pernicious while enjoying the fruits of said wickedness.

I have a feeling our OP this time has probably read excerpts from exactly one chapter of one book. Give you one guess which chapter of which book.

Perhaps the better question is which intellectual and ideas have been taken out of context the most and used to for pernicious effect in public discourse ?

I rate Murray very highly as for dignity, eloquence, scientific rigor, honesty, knowledge, insight, & geniality. I hate it how ideological, hysteric progressives try to shut him down & prevent people from gaining understanding of real world phenomena through his brilliant work.

There should be an award for authors who get haunted by idiots who never read a single thing they've written. It should be presented by Salman Rushdie.

The Bell Curve has bits that made my skin crawl. Also his one about welfare seemed pretry pernicious to me.
