It does. Laurie Blake is a great character. As is Tim Blake Nelson's Looking Glass.
Does the 'Watchmen' TV series get any better after episode 1, or does it remain a baleful, cynical betrayal of everything that made the graphic novel great?

Had to add that Jeremy Irons' portrayal of Veidt is also superb.

Absolutely and then some. Best show on television. He deeply understands the subject matter. Watchmen is the reason he got into television. Also, watch The Leftovers.

Everything aside, I'm okay with how the flashbacks played out; particularly with regards to "Hooded Justice". That part of the story was reasonably well-crafted.
