The article doesn't specifically talk about new data, but rather a new statistical and physical treatment of already collected data. I wouldn't put much hope on this, though. And for the resources of our descendants, I think the Milky Way can cover us.

There's far more potential value outside our galaxy if matter and energy is what underpins value. And there's no adequate reason to stop at realizing an arbitrary amount if value.
