If it were true that there are racial differences in behaviour & intelligence, would you rather that scientists continued to teach that there are no differences (to minimise bigotry), or that they began to teach the truth regardless of the social consequences?

Surely, not allowing study in controversial areas emboldens bad actors who feel they have “hidden knowledge” or feel they are being suppressed and silenced. Also, If these studies are undertaken in a less PC country and have controversial findings, we’ll still need to respond.
Your last sentence is crucial. Other emerging scientific superpowers do not share our taboos.
