When the only thing you study in school is journalism it leaves you woefully unprepared to report on any subject, which is what journalists have to do.

Asteroids like that are common enough. Trying to land, mine, transport raw minerals, process, then transport to earth is where the issues happen. We can't even land a probe on a comet without someone complaining about something unrelated.

Possibly there are tech applications for gold that would yeild more productive devices, but which are prohibitively expensive given the scare Earthbound supply. Vastly increase available quantities could make these feasible.
