PS given the diversity of IQ, mental health, education, & information among adults, I'd love to hear a _principled_ argument for a minimum voting age. Why should a smart, well-informed 16-year-old not be able to vote when every delusional middle-aged Twitter troll can?

The principled grounds for minimum voting age is the expectation that the person who votes should be able to care for themselves & be able to exercise reason to do so. As it is the majority of 18 year olds can’t do this so probably the voting age should be raised.
-
There is a more awkward argument that we just "have to draw the line somewhere," and age is the least problematic of the non-absurd ways of doing it.

I’m more concerned about citizens under 18 having zero influence over their own actual lives.

Most people should not vote

This is the right take. They need more Brennan.

well, I dunno, "generally lacking education on important life issues and emotional maturity to make objective decisions" seems like one that is not on the list and applies to teenagers

Do you believe voting under 18 is a good thing then? I would argue against it.

Voting age should be the same as drinking age. If society don't consider you mature enough to drink, then it shouldn't consider you mature to vote. So in the US voting age should be 21.

You're right except I'd rather see voting and drinking at 18. If you're old enough to go into the military you should be able to vote and drink.
