Hate speech laws are thought crime laws, and about the most un-American thing I can think of. I remember in the 80s being OK with flag burning, because it's free expression. Free expression begins with unpopular speech, it doesn't end there.

Free expression was fine until conservatives got mad and started expressing themselves. Over-the-top hate expression was welcomed as long as it was directed toward religion, traditional mores, & patriotism.

I never thought I'd see the day that free speech would be under attack in the USA. I'm a huge defender of flag burning. The idea of government controlling speech is anathema to a free country.

I know. My mother died at 56 from ovarian cancer. It was such a tragedy until I realized what would have happened to her psyche had she lived. She was shocked senseless by "Soul Train".
