How much should a civilization lie to itself about the nature of human sexuality?

We have to have some false beliefs instituted into society in order to keep civilization going. If our social social institutions were based on a frank acknowledgement of human sexual nature, our society would not survive.

Because our society is in competition with other societies. If those societies and cultures can defeat us by outbreeding us, carrying out social practices that constrain human sexuality, resulting in higher birth rates, then we will be destroyed.
