On Average, men are funnier than women, our new meta-analysis reveal: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0092656619301072?via%3Dihub … @SteveStuWill @PsychRabble @PsychoSchmitt @primalpoly @RichardDawkins @sapinker @michaelshermer @PsychAtAber 1/10
Maybe, but our focus was humor production ability, not the specific content or style of humor. I suspect that Richard Pryor, who peaked c. 1979, would have still been very funny if he was a young stand-up today -- just with different material & delivery.

I still think it's an important question to ask, though. Consider that what is considered humor is dictated by the mores of the time, so sexist humor would be far more acceptable even by women in the 70's. Nowadays, that kinda thing wouldn't fly even among many men.

That said, of course men would be seen as funnier in the 70's if they're the ones guiding what is considered funny. That's no longer the case today (thank God), but it's a really recent shift, so I'm concerned about your data being skewed to reflect an average.

Refering to it as “Humor production” is about as tone deaf as calling sex “procreation” - no ones asking you for your opinion on it
