It is the claim about "1 in 5 Americans" that is fraudulent, given it was singles only. The research may be a reasonable truth about the sample.
You may have issues with the study, its design and sample, and their interpretation of the data, but calling it 'fraudulent' implies the authors fabricated the data. Are you accusing them of scientific misconduct?

What’s the difference between fabricating the data and setting up a study to say exactly what you want it to say, population, sampling, and methodology be damned? They’d have to doing science for it to be scientific misconduct. This is activism.
