My @WashingtonPost piece on why the very broadness of the First Amendment suggests we should have a hate speech law. And if we did, why the President might be in violation of it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/10/29/why-america-needs-hate-speech-law/ …

Those promoting the abrogation of the Constitution are far more dangerous than a rogue president. Rule of Law will ultimately vanquish lawlessness. Intent to nullify the defining prinicles of the Republic is an existential threat to it!

The slippery slope argument was created to refute this reasoning, it is incredibly obvious, yet advocates of hate speech laws keep thinking it will be fine and won't instantly be turned against them. Every one of us holds some minority views which could be silenced by such laws.

I was mocking “Democracy Dies in Darkness” back in 2017 when the big corporations ran a *successful* coup, led by their media arm.

Democracy dies screaming. Dies from the noise. More speech, less speech... It's irrelevant at this point. Because speakers cannot tell if they are forming words, and listeners apparently can't be sure of the language. Soon will come the furious gesturing...

Yet the rest of the MSM still view @washingtonpost and @nytimes as the bastions of great reporting and enlightened opinion, particularly here in the UK where their US correspondents slavishly follow their lead.
