"among America’s 83 million Millennials, 24 million are sympathetic to poly ideals, 17 million have tried poly, and 4 million are currently poly—compared to 3 million who are gay/lesbian." My claims are about typical humans, not all possible humans in all possible situations. My claim that having sex with A typically cuts the emotional strength of bond to B who you also have sex with, seems really obvious averaging over the many ordinary folks that I've known.

This strikes me as a major consideration and one open to empirical eval. Prob hard to run a good RCT but if they're good methods to measure emotional intimacy in
#psychology lit then could find couples that are newly non-exclusive and track changes as they have sex with others.

My $0.02: Poly can work in some cases, sure. But how do you handle kids? It's hard enough when a pair separate, but what do you do with a 'thruple' who separate? Throw in an adopted child, and it gets messy real fast. A contract (re: marriage) between two is easier than three.
