i view a lot of that stuff now as helping, just like asmr helps. it relaxes the user, brings the person down, de-stresses. whatever can help someone ease suffering is a plus
-
But ASMR has active ingredients called sound, voice, & intimacy.

I think it's not so clear if the placebo effect is important as such (except for symptoms like pain). But it could still be good to have ways of doing nothing.

Placebo effect is real. Don’t demonize my placebos.

Essential oils may in fact be the world's most perfect placebo.https://link.medium.com/pJS6oWcha1

I wouldn't put essential oils and homeopathy in the same category. Essential oils have concentrated active ingredients in them and that has a real effect on the body. Tea tree oil, for example, has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1360273/ …
