What's the smear? The piece is harder on the bipartisan foreign policy "blob" than on Gabbard, goes out of its way to emphasize that other politicians' worldviews are just as weird, and suggests that if her religion drives her principled anti-war stance, maybe it's positive.

Kerry's an artist fascinated by human complexity and allergic to ideology and pat answers. That can make her hard to track for folks with less tolerance for ambiguity looking for a clear thumbs-up/thumbs-down verdict.
