Bay Area housing: not enough of it; insanely expensive. Rancho Corral de Tierra along Highway 280: colossal amount of land, the size of San Francisco, could house millions. Still undeveloped. Why?

No disrespect but you have a lot to learn about the CA real estate machine, the tentacles of which are firmly enmeshed in the states power structures & economic ledgers. Land is a big deal out here. The forces that converge on pristine tracks are immense.
I was asking 'Why?' precisely because I have a lot to learn about why. Genuinely puzzled about these tentacles, and why people put up with them

Because our homes are our retirement. None of us are interested in seeing our net worth devalued. To be a homeowner in CA, you either inherit it or you earn it. It’s not a given. I’d not have it any other way. If you are in the Bay Area I’ll buy you lunch:)

And I’d add the reason this is so and good, in the evolutionary sense, is this is the most primo real estate on Earth. Hands down! You want to own a slice? You gotta be one fit motherfucker. And that’s a good thing.
